North Dallas Wearing Mamas contacted us for support with developing their social justice/inclusivity statement. We offered to review their statement, offer feedback, and collaboratively develop an implementation plan. Here are their thoughts on our services: "We loved working with Angelique. She was so kind, knowledgeable, and professional. Our group of admins was somewhat anxious about our meeting with Interchange as we are all at different points in learning about social justice and many of us have had off-putting experiences regarding that subject. I will even admit that some of us worried that we were going to be scolded in some way for our ignorance. However our fears were totally unfounded. Angelique led us through the steps of creating a social justice policy that we can strongly and confidently stand behind while gently and fully answering any questions or concerns we had. "Once you stepped in everything went very smoothly....Most notably I remember her telling us that we should validate...both sides. We have done this to great success...." We are so happy that NWDM found our services valuable!

Isreal Jean Holland is the founder of BreastfeedingInColor, a DC-based organization dedicated to natural parenting support for young Black mothers. You can learn more about the great work BreastfeedingInColor does every day at their Facebook page.
Isreal Jean contacted Interchange for consultation on improving her organization's inclusivity plan and practices. Why did you start your organization? I started BreastfeedingInColor for many reasons, but the main reason was to extend the education of natural parenting to the young and Black community in DC. What is the mission of your organization? The mission of BreastfeedingInColor is to simply improve the breastfeeding rates in DC amongst Black moms. However, when uncovering the root cause of why our rates are extremely low compared to our other racial counterparts I realized that even though my mission may be straight to the point, my goals are more complex. What services do you provide? BreastfeedingInColor gives out free breastfeeding supplies, and other parenting supplies such as baby carriers, diapers, toys, bottles and more to young Black mothers in the DC Metro area. Who is your target market? My target market is young Black mothers in the DC metro area, but I do provide education and resources to all who ask. Why did you choose to work with Interchange? I chose to work with Interchange because Jay and Angelique are trustworthy and knowledgeable. I value trust and security. Not only do I trust these two amazing people, I also felt secure with them knowing what help or clarification I needed. What sort of work did we do for you? Jay provided me with 60 minutes of uninterrupted advice, knowledge, and ideas. They also helped me become more comfortable and confident in myself and my goals. Were you satisfied with our services? I was very satisfied. I am also satisfied with the continuing support that Interchange has shown. How has the work we did for you assisted you in meeting your goals? Jay assisted BreastfeedingInColor in increasing inclusivity beyond my original plan. In all honesty, they helped me reach my original goal of wanting to expand who I help by providing more services to other People of Color in the DC area. Were our services a good value to you? YES! Would you recommend Interchange to other organizations? Yes. |
